The Formative Norms
Norms are the translation layer between principles and culture. We leverage norms to shape the participant experience.
Confidentiality
We agree to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality. Vulnerability and introspection lead to high growth and strong relationships, but cannot exist without a bedrock of trust.

Relentlessly Present
We agree to show up consistently, on-time, and be fully immersed. The magic of Formative isn’t just what we take for ourselves, it’s the presence we give to others.

Growtime > Showtime
We agree that we’re here to grow, which means letting go of our egos, digging into the parts of ourselves that need work, and surfacing the challenges that hold us back.

No Advice-Giving
We agree to use curiosity, our own experience, compassion, and open-ended questions for exploration rather than explicit advice-giving.

Intention Gets an Echo
We agree that when we hear an intention from our peers we echo back an offer of accountability. It’s up to our peers to accept or reject this offer.

As a co-founder, I came to rely on my peer group’s extreme insightfulness to help me identify practical solutions to various challenges. During our time together, my peers became my most trusted confidants. Even in the most complex situations, I relied on them to consistently provide the right advice at the right time enabling me to grow as a leader.
I've found my circle of readily available peers tends to shrink as as I've progressed in my career. Joining a structured peer group has been an antidote to that. It's been incredible to have a group of folks to share wins and losses with — and invaluable to have them advise me along the way.
The further you get in your career, the harder the challenges become. At the same time, safe spaces to talk openly and vulnerably about these challenges also become harder to find. My group has been this safe space. We have supported each other through wins, losses, job changes, life changes, births, and deaths. No matter what’s going on, we’ve remained committed to meeting regularly, and supporting each other beyond that without hesitation.

P.S.
We get it. We’ve built impactful companies and led large teams. So we know how challenging and inherently isolating the experience can be. We’ve found that committing ourselves to share the journey with a group of peers going through similar experiences leads to surprisingly large and consistent gains. These groups work best when thoughtfully and deliberately structured -- with defined cadence, principles, and commitment.
We’re excited to channel our learnings and aspirations into an elevated experience that will equip you with empowering support, actionable insights, and shared accountability for your journey ahead.
